Background
The existing area in front of the property was overgrown, uneven, and lacked suitable off-road parking. The client required a low-maintenance shingle driveway with clear boundaries, a new dropped kerb, and reinstated public footpath surfacing.
Works Included
-
Full clearance of vegetation and removal of soft ground, tarmac, and existing kerbs
-
Marking out and scanning for underground services
-
Installation of a new dropped kerb to council specifications
-
Concrete edgings installed up both sides of the drive
-
Sub-base installed using Type 3 hardcore compacted to 150mm on geotextile membrane
-
Pea shingle laid to a maximum depth of 30–40mm
-
Topsoil and grass seed added to both sides of the new drive
-
Tarmac reinstated on the public footpath surrounding the new dropped kerb area
Outcome
The completed 40sqm shingle driveway provides the client with functional off-road parking and a more attractive and accessible frontage. The dropped kerb allows smooth vehicular access, while the concrete edgings and compacted base ensure long-term stability. The added topsoil and seeding improve the finish, blending the drive naturally with the surrounding garden. All public-facing areas were professionally reinstated in line with council standards.
