Background
The existing concrete slab patio at the rear of the care home had become uneven over time, creating trip hazards and drainage issues. The care home required the surface to be safely relaid to new levels with improved ground preparation and effective water management.
Works Included
-
Lifting and setting aside existing concrete slabs
-
Excavation and removal of old subbase down to correct levels
-
Installation of geotextile membrane and 100mm compacted MOT Type 1 subbase
-
Sand/cement screed applied over membrane before rebedding slabs
-
Supply and installation of close grid ACO drainage channels near doorways and key areas
-
Drainage connected to underground pipework leading to a new soakaway crate system within the adjacent grassland
-
Works completed by a skilled 2-man team with appropriate machinery
Outcome
The newly relaid 262sqm patio now offers a safer, level, and well-drained outdoor space, reducing the risk of slips and falls. The improved drainage system prevents future water pooling, ensuring longevity and usability. The project was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the care home’s daily operations.
