Tarmac Footpath Installation for Village Hall

TM Contract Services was commissioned to install a new access footpath linking a Graveney village hall to a nearby play area located at the far end of a field. The project aimed to improve year-round access for families and visitors, especially during wet weather.

Background

The existing route from the village hall to the play area required visitors to walk across an open field, which often became muddy and difficult to use during the winter months. To improve accessibility and safety, a new tarmac footpath was requested by the client.

Construction Details

Footpath dimensions: approx. 100m long x 1.2m wide, with a total area of 122sqm
Ground marked out and levels checked before excavation
Topsoil removed using a digger and set aside for muckaway
Concrete edgings installed along both sides of the path on a concrete bed
Sub-base of MOT Type 1 compacted to 100mm on geotextile membrane
Tarmac applied in layers and compacted to specification
Additional section of path installed to link footpath into the village hall
All surrounding areas made good for a neat, finished appearance

Outcome

The completed footpath provides a durable, all-weather route from the village hall to the play area, eliminating the need for foot traffic to cross muddy grass. The new path has improved access for parents, children, and hall users year-round and blends neatly with the surrounding landscape.
